Residents of Manyatta Ginda, Marsabit county decry poor road conditions

Residents of Manyatta Ginda in Marsabit County have expressed concern over the poor state of roads in the area, saying the deteriorating infrastructure continues to hinder access to essential services, particularly during emergencies.
Speaking to Radio Jangwani, residents led by Halima Gufu said the condition of the roads has made it difficult for pregnant women and sick people to reach health facilities in time, exposing them to greater risks during medical emergencies.
Gufu noted that the poor road network has also affected security operations, as law enforcement officers often face difficulties accessing some parts of the area due to impassable sections of the road.
The residents say the situation has persisted for years despite numerous appeals for intervention.

Community elder Galgalo Barile said Manyatta Ginda, one of the area’s traditional villages, has been overlooked in development initiatives, particularly in road maintenance and the provision of healthcare services.
Barile further revealed that the local health facility is not operational, forcing residents to travel long distances in search of medical care and compounding the challenges caused by the poor road network.
He added that frustration over the lack of action from leaders has prompted local youth to take matters into their own hands by voluntarily repairing sections of the road to improve access for patients and expectant mothers during emergencies.
The residents are now urging the relevant authorities to prioritize the rehabilitation of the road and restore health services in the area to improve the welfare of the community.
