Police in Marsabit have seized and destroyed 800 litres of kang’ara and 45 litres of chang’aa in Manyatta Ginda, within Marsabit Central Sub-County.

Speaking to journalists, Marsabit Central OCPD Beethoven Gachago said the illicit brew was seized on Saturday evening during an operation targeting the illegal manufacture and sale of alcoholic drinks.

Gachago said the suspects managed to escape before police arrived, adding that no arrests had been made in connection with the seizure.

He said security agencies will continue with operations against illicit alcohol and drugs in the area, warning those involved in the illegal trade to stop immediately or face legal action.

The operation comes a week after the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA), Marsabit office, in collaboration with security agencies and the county government, launched a 100-day campaign to combat the consumption and trade of illicit alcohol and drugs across Marsabit County.

Authorities have urged members of the public to provide information on individuals involved in the manufacture and distribution of illicit brews as the crackdown continues.
