Marsabit refugees in Ethiopia appeal for repatriation to Kenya

Thousands of Kenyan refugees living in Ethiopia have appealed to the government to expedite their return to Kenya following the restoration of peace in parts of Marsabit County.

The refugees, estimated at 5,791, made the appeal during a meeting with journalists last weekend in Elebor. The group, currently residing in border areas between Dilo and Magado in Ethiopia, urged the Kenyan government to fast-track the repatriation process so they can return to their homes.

The refugees said the return of peace in their home areas has renewed their hope of going back home. However, they noted that they continue to face numerous challenges while living in Ethiopia, including limited access to clean water, healthcare services, education, and other basic necessities.

The appeal comes as Marsabit Senator Mohammed Chute calls on the national government to intervene and address the matter.
