Bishop Kihara leads Caritas day celebrations in Turbi, calls for acts of Love and Service

Caritas Marsabit joined the faithful of Turbi Parish on Sunday to celebrate Caritas Day 2026, with the event serving as a reminder of the importance of charity, compassion and service to those in need.

The celebration was attended by the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Marsabit, Rt. Rev. Peter Kihara Kariuki, alongside clergy, Caritas staff and members of the local community.

The day was marked by Holy Mass, prayers, fellowship and reflection on the life and legacy of Mother Teresa of Calcutta, whose dedication to serving the poor continues to inspire humanitarian and faith-based initiatives across the world.

In a gesture of solidarity with vulnerable members of the community, Caritas Marsabit donated food supplies to 50 vulnerable households in Turbi. The donation formed part of the organization’s efforts to put faith into action by supporting families facing hardship.

Speaking during the celebration, the Caritas Marsabit Director Mr Isacko Jirma highlighted the organization’s commitment to serving communities through its five key thematic areas, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), Sustainable Livelihoods, Justice and Peace, Health and Nutrition, and Disaster Risk Reduction.

The Director noted that the Gospel call to feed the hungry and care for those in need continues to guide the organization’s interventions across Marsabit County.

Bishop Kihara urged Christians to embrace a culture of generosity and service, regardless of their circumstances. Drawing inspiration from Mother Teresa, he reminded the faithful that meaningful acts of charity often begin with small resources but can have a significant impact on the lives of others.

Turbi Parish Priest Fr. Chris also encouraged the congregation to focus on the spirit behind charitable work rather than the scale of assistance provided.

“It is not how much or how many interventions we deliver, but rather with how much love,” he said.

The celebration concluded with a renewed call for individuals and communities to continue extending kindness and support to those in need, following the example set by Mother Teresa and the teachings of the Gospel.
