Marsabit set for dry, windy week as isolated rains remain possible

Most parts of Marsabit County are expected to remain dry this week, with sunny and windy conditions forecast to dominate much of the county between September 8 and 14, according to the Marsabit County Meteorological Services.

The forecast indicates that the driest conditions will prevail across the lowland, eastern and northern parts of the county, as well as the Lake Turkana pastoral zones. Areas including North Horr, Dukana, Maikona, Turbi, Kargi and much of the Lake Turkana Basin are expected to experience predominantly dry weather throughout the week.

Despite the generally dry outlook, isolated pockets of light rainfall could occur in some highland and elevated areas. The Meteorological Services has identified Mt. Marsabit, Sololo Highlands, Hurri Hills, Ngurunit and South Horr among areas that could receive occasional showers.

Some rainfall is also possible in areas along the Ethiopia border, where localized moisture and terrain-induced uplift could trigger isolated precipitation.

However, rainfall is expected to remain limited, with amounts generally below 5 millimetres and confined to a few localized areas.

Weather conditions are also expected to vary significantly between the county’s highlands and lowlands. Highland areas are likely to experience cool mornings, with cloud cover, mist and occasional fog, particularly during the early hours.

In contrast, the lowlands, North Horr region and the Lake Turkana corridor are expected to remain hot, dry and windy, conditions that could continue to affect pastoral activities and movement across the expansive arid areas.

The forecast highlights the continued contrast between Marsabit’s cooler elevated zones and its hotter, drier lowlands as the county enters another predominantly dry week.
