New DCI Chief Amin Mohamed takes over as he pledges to work with fairness

The new Director of criminal Investigations Mr Amin Mohammed Ibrahim, was on Wednesday morning sworn into office at the Supreme Court of Kenya.

 

The swearing in of the new DCI Chief was witnessed by the Chief Justice and President of the Supreme Court, Hon Lady Justice Martha Koome, the Acting Inspector General Mr Noor Gabow and the Chairman of the National Police Service Commission Mr Eliud Kinuthia, the new DCI Chief took his oath which was administered by the deputy chief registrar of the judiciary Mr Paul Maina.

 

Speaking after he took oath of office, Amin said that he was happy to be back at the Directorate where he has served for most of his 33 years of service as a police officer and thanked His Excellency President William Ruto, for his appointment.

Amin committed to uphold professionalism and integrity in the discharge of his duties promised Kenyans that he would deliver on his mandate expeditiously and with fairness.

“I assure all Kenyans that I will be professional and shall work towards ensuring a safe and secure environment for Kenyans, while respecting their human rights and fundamental freedoms,” said Mr Amin.

The DCI boss acknowledged the security challenges faced by Kenyans including robberies, human trafficking, money laundering, corruption, and the threat of terror among others which he promised to tackle in collaboration with other stakeholders in the criminal justice system.

“I will work with closely with all stakeholders including the judiciary, the ODPP, the correctional facilities, as well as the media in delivering justice to Kenyans firmly and with fairness,” added the new DCI director.

Mr Amin who pledged to maintain an open door policy went ahead to publicly share his mobile phone number of 0722415419 with Kenyans and urged anyone with a security issue that required his urgent attention to contact him.

 

While welcoming the new Director, the Chief Justice Hon Martha Koome, acknowledged the enormous responsibilities that come with the office of the Director of Criminal Investigations and pledged her support whenever called upon.

 

She said that the courts rely on investigations conducted by the Directorate and urged the DCI Director to work closely with other players in the National Council on Administration of Justice, that brings together state and non-state actors from the justice sector in fulfilling his mandate.

On his part, the Ag Inspector General Noor Gabow, welcomed Amin whom he congratulated for his appointment and urged him to discharge his duties with fairness and in strict conformity to the law.

Mr Gabow urged Kenyans to be disciplined and obey the law as there was a new sheriff in town.
