Police seize 35 bales of bhang in Marsabit

Police in Marsabit have seized 35 large bales of cannabis and recovered KSh 3,000 in cash suspected to be proceeds from the illegal drug trade.

The recovery was made during an operation conducted on Sunday, during which a suspect linked to the cannabis trade was arrested. Another suspect found in possession of 3.5 litres of illicit brew, commonly known as chang’aa, in the Manyatta Ginda area was also apprehended.

The two suspects were arraigned in court on Monday.

In a related operation, police also confiscated 16.5 litres of chang’aa in the Nagayo area on Friday last week as part of ongoing efforts to combat the production and sale of illegal alcohol.

Speaking to journalists, Marsabit Central OCPD Beethoven Gachago called on residents to work closely with law enforcement agencies in the fight against drug trafficking and illicit alcohol.

Gachago said information provided by members of the public has played a critical role in the success of recent operations targeting the illegal businesses.

He reaffirmed the police service’s commitment to intensifying crackdowns on narcotics and illicit brews and urged residents to continue reporting suspicious activities to the authorities.
