Saku youth call for end to tribal politics ahead of 2027 elections

Youth in Saku Constituency, Marsabit County, have called on their peers and residents to reject tribal politics ahead of the 2027 General Election and instead support leaders based on their policies, development agenda and ability to deliver services.

The youth, some of whom work in the boda boda sector, said ethnic-based politics remains one of the factors hindering development in Marsabit County. They urged voters to carefully evaluate candidates and prioritize competence and leadership qualities when electing leaders.

Speaking exclusively to this station, the young people challenged politicians to conduct issue-based campaigns focused on development programmes and policy proposals rather than ethnic affiliations.

They warned that tribal politics fuels division among communities, undermines social cohesion and slows the county’s development progress.

The youth also opposed the practice of elders and politicians determining the political direction of communities, saying citizens should be free to make independent decisions based on the performance and capability of individual leaders.

They argued that the time has come for residents to unite and assess leaders on merit rather than ethnic identity, adding that Marsabit needs visionary leaders committed to addressing the county’s development challenges.

The youth further called on residents to elect leaders with clear plans for improving livelihoods and accelerating development, regardless of their tribal or political backgrounds.
