Mental health experts have welcomed a proposal by lawmakers seeking to make guidance and counselling a mandatory and structured programme in all public and private primary and secondary schools.
On an interview with Radio Jangwani , Marsabit County Referral and Teaching Hospital mental health specialist Dr. Victor Karani said the programme would provide students with an opportunity to receive education and support on the challenges affecting them if implemented in schools.
Dr. Karani noted that access to guidance and counselling services within learning institutions would promote proper upbringing and contribute to improving the lives of learners while in school.
He further said the programme would help reduce cases of indiscipline among students, a move he believes would enhance stability and order in schools.
