Herder shot and injured while grazing livestock in North Horr

A 50-year-old herder is recovering from a gunshot wound to the arm after he was attacked in Charigollo area of North Horr Ward, Marsabit County.

Marsabit county police commander Leonard Kimaiyo said the herder was attacked on Wednesday while grazing livestock. However, no animals were stolen during the incident.

Kimaiyo said police have launched investigations to establish those responsible for the attack.

He urged pastoralists to exercise restraint and make peaceful use of grazing areas and water sources, warning communities against retaliatory actions.

The police commander emphasized that residents should allow security agencies to carry out their mandate of maintaining peace and security in the area.

The incident comes a day after leaders from the Turkana and Gabra communities agreed to strengthen peace efforts and promote peaceful pastoralism following dialogue talks held in Gas village.

The meeting brought together representatives from the two communities and security officials from North Horr and Loiyangalani sub-counties. Discussions focused on the importance of peaceful coexistence and strengthening cooperation between neighbouring communities.
