Marsabit truck drivers plant trees to beautify town

By Johnbosco Nateleng

The Marsabit Truck Drivers Association (MTDA) has planted 55 trees and flowers along the median of the Marsabit–Moyale highway in an effort to improve and beautify the town’s environment.

Speaking to journalists, MTDA Secretary Shukri Ibrahim said the initiative is aimed at protecting the environment and enhancing the appearance of Marsabit town.

He called on residents to support the initiative and take part in tree-planting activities.

Shukri said the drivers launched the project on their own without support from politicians or any other individuals and urged residents of Marsabit Central to help protect the newly planted trees and flowers.

Marsabit Municipality Manager Boru Golicha said the trees will also enhance road safety by guiding pedestrians to designated crossing points, thereby reducing the risk of accidents.

At the same time, ACK Marsabit priest Canon Kargi Denge and Sheikh Abdullahi Ali urged residents to take precautions ahead of the anticipated El Niño rains and to look out for their neighbours during the rainy season.
