Grade 10 Learners to be Placed in Senior Schools Under New System: Key Updates and Guidelines
The Ministry of Education is set to begin the placement of Grade 10 learners in senior schools following the release of Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA) results this week.
Each learner selected 12 schools, including boarding and day options. Placement will utilize an electronic system, incorporating performance-based slots for students excelling in STEM, social sciences, and arts. The scoring system has shifted to an eight-level model to provide clearer insights into learners’ performance, moving away from percentage-based assessments.
All admissions will be managed through the National Education Management Information System (NEMIS), ensuring accountability and control over transfer requests. The new senior school structure is scheduled to officially commence on January 12, 2026.
