Man Jailed five years for attempted defilement of seven-year-old child in Dukana

A Marsabit court has sentenced a man to five years in prison after he was found guilty of attempting to sodomize a seven-year-old child in Dukana Sub-County, Marsabit County.

Dambala Yattani was convicted for the offence committed on February 15, 2025. The sentence was handed down on Tuesday by Marsabit Senior Principal Magistrate Christine Wekesa.

In a separate ruling, the court sentenced Diba Abakar Elema to four years in prison after finding him guilty of illegally possessing an AK-47 rifle.

Elema was also convicted of unlawful possession of ammunition and threatening to kill. Court records indicate that he was arrested on July 17, 2025, in Qurqur Village, Forole Location, Marsabit, while in possession of the firearm.

The court granted both convicts 14 days to lodge appeals against their convictions and sentences.

Meanwhile, a suspected drug dealer arrested in Manyatta Ginda with 35 rolls of cannabis valued at approximately KSh1,750 has been released on a cash bail of KSh30,000 or a bond of KSh50,000.

The suspect, Wako Abdirazak, appeared before Magistrate Christine Wekesa and pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The case is scheduled for mention on September 15.
