Campaign against illicit alcohol and drugs launched in Marsabit

A 100-day campaign to combat the use and sale of illicit alcohol and drugs has been officially launched in Marsabit County.

The campaign is being spearheaded by the National authority for the campaign against alcohol and drug abuse (NACADA), Marsabit branch, in collaboration with the security department and the county government.

Speaking during the launch on Wednesday, Marsabit county commissioner Stanley Kamande said the campaign targets the use and trafficking of drugs across all parts of the county.

Kamande warned drug dealers and traffickers, particularly those involved in the sale of bhang, saying stern action would be taken against them.

Meanwhile, NACADA Marsabit Coordinator Mohammed Wako said the fight against drug abuse would continue even after the 100-day campaign comes to an end.

Wako said drug use among students remains high, calling for increased efforts from various stakeholders to address the problem.

Marsabit County government head of staff Abdo Alla said the campaign is aimed at strengthening ongoing efforts to combat drug abuse.

Alla said collaboration among various stakeholders is essential in protecting the current and future generations from the effects of drug abuse.
