Marsabit stakeholders pledge to strengthen peace ahead of 2027 general election

Marsabit stakeholders have pledged to work together to promote peace and security ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Speaking to journalists after a meeting that brought together the county security committee and leaders of the Interfaith Council, Marsabit County Commissioner Stanley Kamande said all stakeholders had united to discuss strategies aimed at enhancing security in the county.

Kamande urged politicians to conduct peaceful campaigns and avoid actions that could threaten the safety and stability of residents.

Meanwhile, the County Peace Committee said politicians intending to contest various elective positions in the 2027 General Election will be required to sign a peace pact that will guide their conduct during and after the election period.

The committee’s chairperson, Sora Guyo, said the agreement is intended to promote peaceful coexistence and prevent election-related conflicts.

Guyo added that any individual found violating the terms of the peace pact would face legal action from relevant government institutions, including the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

At the same time, Saku Interfaith Council women’s representative Adhi Halakhe called on the government to intensify efforts to combat drug and substance abuse among young people.

Halakhe said addressing the drug menace is critical to strengthening security and maintaining peace and stability within the community.
