Marsabit catholic youth gather for faith formation festival in Laisamis

More than 600 Catholic youths from across the Catholic Diocese of Marsabit have gathered at St. George Parish in Laisamis for a week-long youth festival aimed at strengthening their faith, character, and commitment to Christian values.

The Festival will run until Sunday, August 16, 2026, bringing together young Catholics from the parishes of Illeret, Moyale, Korr, Hurri Hills, Kalacha, Turbi, Laisamis, and Marsabit Cathedral.

The gathering seeks to nurture the spiritual growth of young people while equipping them with life skills rooted in the teachings of the Catholic Church. Through prayer, catechesis, mentorship, and interactive sessions, participants are being encouraged to embrace their role as witnesses of Christ in their families, communities, and society.

Addressing the youths during one of the formation sessions, Family Affairs Advisor Christine Dokhle challenged them to build purposeful lives guided by faith and personal responsibility.

She urged the young people to set meaningful goals and trust in God as they navigate life’s challenges, emphasizing that every individual has the capacity to overcome obstacles through determination, hard work, and faith.

Dokhle also encouraged the youths to accept themselves and their circumstances while striving to improve their lives. She noted that self-acceptance is an important step in personal growth and in recognizing God’s unique purpose for each person.

Reflecting on the influence of friendships, she advised participants to choose companions who inspire them to uphold Christian values and make responsible decisions.

The family affairs advisor further highlighted the importance of responsible use of time, particularly during the school holiday period. She encouraged the youths to engage in activities that strengthen their relationship with God and benefit their families and communities.

She called on them to assist their parents with household responsibilities, dedicate time to their studies, attend Mass and other church activities, and actively participate in parish programs.

The youth congress is expected to deepen the participants’ spiritual lives while fostering unity among young Catholics from different parts of the diocese. Church leaders hope the gathering will inspire a new generation of faithful, disciplined, and service-oriented young people committed to living out the Gospel in their daily lives.
