A suspected bandit has been shot dead following a banditry attack in Loiyangalani Sub-County, Marsabit County.

The incident occurred on Tuesday after armed suspects ambushed herders who were moving their livestock from Mouwokiteng towards Lardapach.

Speaking to Radio Jangwani, Loiyangalani Sub-County Police Commander Nicholas Mutua said the attackers stole 3,000 sheep and goats and drove them towards the Arapal area.

Mutua said a multi-agency security team launched an operation to pursue the suspects, successfully recovering all the stolen livestock. One suspect was shot dead during the ensuing confrontation.

He added that security agencies have intensified patrols in the area and are planning peace meetings with the El Mosaretu community to find a lasting solution to the recurring attacks.

The police commander also called on community elders to take a leading role in efforts to end livestock theft and promote peaceful coexistence.

Mutua further warned those involved in livestock theft that they would be arrested and face legal action.
