A Kitui Member of County Assembly (MCA), Cyrus Kisavi Musyoka, was on Tuesday charged with stealing 42 mobile phones valued at Ksh. 609,000 from a shop along Luthuli Avenue in Nairobi.

Musyoka, who represents Ikanga/Kyatune Ward, appeared before the Milimani Chief Magistrates’ Court following his arrest on October 22, 2026. He denied the charge.

The court heard that the alleged theft occurred on August 5, 2026, when 42 Itel City 200 smartphones, each valued at Ksh. 14,500, were reportedly stolen from a shop owned by Dahir Adan Mohamud.

The MCA is also being investigated over two other alleged mobile phone theft incidents in Nairobi in August and September this year, involving consignments valued at Ksh. 1.8 million and Ksh. 420,000, respectively.

The three incidents involve mobile phones valued at an estimated Ksh. 4.9 million, according to the prosecution.Prosecutors opposed his release on bail, arguing that he posed a flight risk due to his alleged previous failure to attend court proceedings.Investigators have separately sought 15 days to detain him to complete investigations, including recording witness statements, analysing CCTV footage and pursuing suspected accomplices.

Principal Magistrate Geoffrey Onsarigo ordered that Musyoka be remanded at Kamukunji Police Station pending a hearing on November 5, 2026, when the court will consider the bail application and the request for further detention.
