Marsabit schools receive mobile laboratories to boost practical science learning

Comboni Primary and Junior Secondary School in Mlima Mitatu, Saku Constituency, Marsabit County, has received mobile laboratory equipment aimed at strengthening practical science learning and improving the implementation of the Competency-Based Education (CBE) curriculum.

The equipment, funded by Datatec through Concern Worldwide in partnership with the Marsabit County Department of Education, is expected to help learners gain a better understanding of scientific concepts through practical lessons.

Speaking during the handover ceremony, Marsabit County Director of Education William Kamugunah said the initiative targets 211 schools across the county, but only 39 have been reached so far. He put the cost of the equipment distributed so far at 500,000 shillings.

Meanwhile, Marsabit County Teachers Service Commission Director Alinoor Hassan urged teachers to take proper care of the equipment to ensure it benefits both current and future learners.

Concern Worldwide officer Benson Kimani said the organization continues to work with the county education department to identify schools in need of support through the provision of mobile laboratory equipment.

Jane Mwai, an officer from the School Equipment Production Unit (SEPU), said the mobile laboratories would help address challenges teachers face when teaching science, particularly in schools located in remote areas.
