The National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC), in collaboration with stakeholders in Marsabit County, is stepping up efforts to prevent election-related violence and promote peaceful and fair elections ahead of the 2027 General Election.

The initiative brings together security officials, peace stakeholders and non-governmental organizations for a two-day conference aimed at developing coordinated strategies to address hate speech, ethnic incitement and emerging security challenges.

Speaking to the press, NCIC Deputy Director of Messaging and Information Management Jane Kamau said the commission was strengthening inter-agency collaboration to improve coordination, enhance responses to hate speech and identify solutions to emerging challenges.

Kamau also highlighted the commission’s “Uchaguzi Bila Noma” campaign, which seeks to promote peaceful elections through responsible leadership, the prevention of hate speech, efforts to curb ethnic incitement, youth engagement and the monitoring of conflict-prone areas.

Meanwhile, Marsabit County Commissioner Stanley Kamande said the conference was expected to establish a common approach to addressing hate speech and strengthening peace before, during and after the elections.

Kamande urged residents to maintain calm throughout the political campaign period, calling on leaders to use their public meetings to promote unity and development rather than rhetoric that could fuel hatred, division and violence among communities.
