Ethiopia clashes raise border security concerns as residents flee to Kenya
By JB Nateleng
Security has been heightened along the Kenya-Ethiopia border following ongoing clashes in Moyale, Ethiopia, that have forced some residents to flee across the border into Moyale Constituency, Marsabit County, in search of safety.
The clashes, now in their third day, have raised concerns over the potential spillover of insecurity into Kenya, prompting security agencies to intensify surveillance along the border.
Marsabit County Commissioner Stanley Kamande says security personnel are closely monitoring the situation to prevent the conflict from affecting Kenya’s territorial security.
Kamande has urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to security agencies as authorities continue to assess the situation.
He has also called on peace stakeholders and organizations working in conflict prevention to develop additional strategies to restore calm and stability in the border region.
