Marsabit Commissioner to parents: Protect your children from FGM and early marriage this holiday

Marsabit County Commissioner Stanley Kamande has called on parents to protect their children during the long December holiday, warning them against subjecting girls to female genital mutilation (FGM) and early marriage.

Speaking to Radio Jangwani in his office on Monday, Kamande urged parents to keep a close watch on their children while schools are closed.

National exams begin smoothly

The commissioner also said the national examinations KPCEA, KCSE and KJSEAhave started well across the county, with security tightened at all examination centres.

In remote areas where poor roads have made some routes impassable, the government has provided an aircraft to deliver examination papers so that no candidate misses out.

Residents in flood-prone areas told to move

Kamande also urged residents living in areas at risk of flooding to relocate to safer ground to avoid harm, as El Niño rains are expected.
