Most parts of Marsabit County are expected to remain generally dry this week as the cool and dry season continues to influence weather conditions across northern Kenya.

The weather outlook for August 11th to 17th indicates that rainfall will be limited to a few isolated areas around Mount Marsabit, Sololo Highlands, Hurri Hills, and pockets near Maikona and the Ethiopia border.

The rainfall is expected to be light and localized, with amounts generally below five millimetres, while most lowland, desert and Lake Turkana basin areas are expected to remain dry.

Highland areas are likely to experience cool and cloudy mornings, with occasional fog, while hot, dry and occasionally windy conditions will continue in the lowlands, North Horr and the Lake Turkana basin.

Residents have been urged to use available water resources efficiently and livestock keepers to closely monitor pasture and water availability, particularly in North Horr, Dukana, Maikona, Turbi and Kargi.

Fishermen, boat operators and other lake users along the Lake Turkana corridor have also been advised to exercise caution due to strong winds and rough lake conditions.

Communities have further been urged to observe fire safety measures, as dry vegetation combined with strong winds could increase the risk of bush and grass fires.

Motorists using the Marsabit–Moyale, Marsabit–North Horr, Marsabit–Turbi and Loiyangalani roads have been advised to exercise caution due to blowing dust and strong crosswinds that may occasionally reduce visibility.

Residents in highland areas, including Mount Marsabit, Sololo, Hurri Hills, Korr and Ngurunit, have also been advised to dress warmly during early mornings and at night due to cool temperatures, while travellers in fog-prone areas are urged to exercise caution as visibility may occasionally be reduced.
