The chairman of the Marsabit County Peace Committee, Guyo Sora, has appealed to pastoralist communities in North Horr Constituency to live in peace, as tension in the area flares up again.
Speaking to journalists on Sunday, Sora said he was deeply saddened that the communities had returned to conflict, even though the peace committee and the security committee brought them together for a meeting in September 2026.
“As your chairman, I want to say that war has no benefit. We talked in the past about the evils of war, and I humbly beg you: when one human being loses their life, nothing can fill that space. Please, I beg you,” Sora said.
With drought biting and communities waiting for the rains, Sora urged the pastoralists to share the available pasture fairly instead of fighting over it. Competition for grazing land and water is a common source of conflict in the region during dry spells.
Sora also commended the security department for stepping up security in the area.
Marsabit County Commissioner Stanley Kamande, who confirmed the tension in North Horr, said security officers from various units in Loiyangalani, North Horr and Marsabit Central were deployed to the area last weekend to carry out patrols.
The deployment is aimed at calming the situation and preventing further clashes between the communities as peace leaders continue to push for dialogue.
