According to the National Police Service (NPS), the recovery was made on Thursday, August 13, 2026, in the Kakili area of Burat Location following an intelligence-led operation.
Police said the firearm was allegedly in the possession of a suspected bandit linked to recent armed attacks and livestock rustling incidents in the region.
The recovered weapon and ammunition have since been secured in police custody as investigations continue.
In a statement, the National Police Service said the ongoing Dumisha Amani security operation continues to record positive results in efforts aimed at enhancing security in northern Kenya.
The NPS commended the continued cooperation between security teams and local residents, noting that information provided by members of the public remains critical in identifying and recovering illegal firearms.
Police further reiterated their commitment to eliminating illegal weapons and combating banditry in the region.
Authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities or individuals believed to be in possession of illegal firearms through established police reporting channels.
The latest recovery is expected to support ongoing investigations into suspected criminal networks linked to recent armed attacks and livestock rustling cases in the area.
