Government suspends land registration in Dabel amid protests

The government has temporarily suspended the land registration exercise in Dabel, Golbo, to allow for dialogue and consultations among the various communities.

Moyale Deputy County Commissioner Benedict Munywoki confirmed the suspension, saying land officials who were heading to the area had been instructed to return until a solution is reached.

He added that the government is closely monitoring the issue to ensure that all communities continue to live peacefully and maintain good relations.

Munywoki said the consultations were important because the communities depend on one another in livestock keeping, particularly during the dry season when they share grazing areas.

The development follows protests held in Golbo, Moyale Constituency, earlier Wednesday morning, where residents opposed the ongoing land registration process.

The protesters said registering the land in favour of one community, without considering the rights and interests of other affected communities, had raised serious concerns.

On Tuesday, elders from different communities also expressed concern over how the land registration exercise was being conducted.

The elders called on the government to suspend further registration activities until detailed and transparent consultations involving all affected communities are held.
