Man sentenced to life imprisonment for defiling six-year-old daughter

A man has been sentenced to life imprisonment after being convicted of defiling his six-year-old daughter in Garissa County.

Resident Magistrate Robert Lemayan, sitting at Garissa Law Courts, convicted the man over the offence, which occurred at about 11 p.m. on 22 January 2026 in the Bulla Ijara area of Garissa Township.

In its ruling, the court considered the testimony of the child and evidence from four other prosecution witnesses. Medical evidence, including a P3 form and treatment notes presented to the court, also supported the prosecution’s case.

The court noted that the accused was the child’s father and had a responsibility to protect her from harm. Instead, he abused the trust placed in him as a parent.

The magistrate further considered the child’s age in determining the sentence under the Sexual Offences Act.

The accused was convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment. He has 14 days within which to appeal against the decision.
